I also bought their loom and booklet...not the video and some day will get around to using it....but it has been quite a few years!
I have crocheted a couple rugs with a size q hook...and am also braiding a rug with the traditional wool fabric...but I think cottons would also work well.

Is your loom like this? I had my DH make a loom for me, I had so much fun making this rug and used up a lot of old sheets, clothes and random fabric. I finished this one over the weekend and started another last night. I will try to remember to take a photo of the finished product and post it soon.

You can also use the strips on a latch hook backing (like big needlepoint canvas) and just do loops instead of the cut pieces. Don't remember exactly how I did it, as that was quite a few years and many projects ago. I don't think I cut the strips into little pieces, but I know you can do it that way. You end up with a very soft fluffy rug that will fray with washing like the denim and flannel rag quilts.
