this is in the very rural areas. no buses or cars. propane gas. bleached water. enough electric to generate one low-watt bulb, if that. outhouses.

the school is supported by the company that gives these tours. they supply uniforms, one hot lunch and pay for one teacher. the kids have to get there on their own, which means walking distance. there is also a *working flush toilet* with a sink that gives water. just don't drink it.

the stove has been donated by some commercial enterprise. they're hardly ever used although they have the propane. they prefer the cooking method they're used to. they cook in a totally separate building in case of fire. they don't want the house to burn down.

regarding the backyard: the little building with the curtain is the outhouse. they are very private. the other building is a shed. the chickens are all over the place. talk about free range.

the other traffic is chickens. the traffic roams on any side of the road it wants to. the tour bus has to be on guard all the time. on the side of the road notice the electric lines. that brings very rudimentary electric to the houses.

can you imagine doing this wash by hand? mostly they hang it on their fences to dry. the lucky ones have rope lines. the city overview was taken from the top of a tramway. you could see the water color changes. very beautiful.

Wow, these were great! And I loved the picture of you - but where's hubby? Surely you got at least one photo of him there.
I was thinking how sad it was that things are so poor there, but they live in a beautiful place. Horrifying to have to hand wash your clothes, but then again, maybe that's better than wasting an hour or two sitting in traffic every day? Just musing, not really saying it's so. I'd probably rather sit in traffic.
Very amusing that the kids do "Eensy, weensie spider." Don't they have great whacking BIG spiders there? Are any of them eensy-weensie?
Thanks for posting these!
