Burn Remedy - Worth Trying

This story came from the Snopes site and is a dangerous thing to be passing off as a remedy for burns.
My daughter was burned with boiling water at age 7 and airlifted to Shriner`s Burn Institute in Cincinatti, I saw first hand the suffering children went thru when they arrived and had to be "debried", which means foreign substances had to be scrubbed out of their wounds after well meaning parents had covered their burns with butter, flour or many other "home remedy" substances. It was drilled into us that nothing but cool water should ever be used for temporary relief until medical attention is recieved. Anything else can cause infection. If you`ve used flour on a (minor) burn without consequence, it`s likely that the skin was not broken and the flour was not introduced to an open wound. In which case, cool water would have done the same job.

Thanks for the info. I do know for a fact that flour puts out a grease fire. I've done that. Our son got burned rather bad on his feet one time and the doctor said to keep it covered with gauze as that will help keep the burn down. I am going to put some flour in the freezer especially for accidental burns.

Never heard of flour, but worth a try. I have always used a wet tea bag (Liton - black tea), get it wet ring it out (not dry, but also not dripping wet). Place tea bag on burn it also does wonders. Going to try the flour next time.

Burn Remedy
Plain old melting ice works fine. (ice from the freezer is below freezing, I run cold water on the ice to "warm" it to 32 degrees)
Handy to know if you absent mindedly pick up the wrong end of a soldering iron.
Keep it on the burn and it won't blister. If you get a really bad burn and see the raw red flesh, just get emergency care ASAP, DON"T put salve on it for the doctor to wipe off (Oh do that hurt!)
