Call me contrary but I don't think anyone should be cajoled into quilting

I realise I am going against the flow here, but I've read a few topics where people have asked for help in motivation. Surely if quilting is a chore or uninspiring then you shouldn't force it. I find that sometimes I leave a project for weeks but then return to it with renewed enthusiasm. Am I alone in this approach?

I always have a variety of projects in the works. Some are quilting, others are outdoor type, some are quickly finished, others are long term. In this way I always can switch off projects if one becomes frustrating or I get tired of it.

Sometimes, after spending months on a project, you just lose motivation. You need someone to give you a boost for fear the darn thing will neve be finished. Asking someone to help keep your spirits up and having someone force you to work are two entirely different things.

For this reason, I'm almost sorry that I have as much fabric as I have & I have no where near what alot of people have. There have been times when I haven't quilted for years & then got back to it again & still, now that I've bought "quite a bit" of fabric, I wish I hadn't because now I feel "obligated' to myself to get it used up....Go figure.

if you feel obligated then maybe you shouldn't be quilting. If that is the case maybe you need to get rid of some of your fabric so you don't feel that way. A person should never force yourself to sew or any other project because it just doesn't turn out the way you would like it to and then that is frustrating also.

I have gone for stretches when I haven't been motivated to quilt. It's usually because I am frustrated with the project or am not sure what or how to go about the next step. Sometimes it is because I am tired from work and just want to veg. After a bit I start back up with new energy.

I quilt when I feel like it and don't feel guilty when I don't. It's not a job so if I don't feel like it, I do something else. Sometimes I go weeks or months without quilting. Sometimes not. And it's all OK.
