There was a book published with jump rope rhymes. I think the title was Anna Banana. The library should have it. Can't remember any of the rhymes, though. Good luck!

do you really think kids jump rope nowadays???? if their thumbs can do it, they will. I think jump rope is gone with tag and kick the can, but I could stay out all night and play those great summer games. at Catholic school, the only activity we could do at lunch was to jump rope and double dutch.

In Boston area, where I grew up , we didn't do jump rope; rather we did hand clapping games with each other:
    3 6 9
    the goose drank wine
the monkey chewed tobacco on the street car lline
    the line broke
    the monkey got chocked and
    they all went to heaven
    in a little row boat
    clap clap

the other game we played was with a ball against the wall and clapping in between the ball hitting the wall and on the return singing an alphabet song.
    A my name is Alice
    my husband's name is Al
we live in Alabama and we sell apples.

the goal of the game was to see who could come up with a woman's and man's names , a town, and an occupation that began with the alphabet letter .
This thread brings back memories thanks

I remember a number of them, now that I see them again. I was just thinking it's sad that my kids didn't have much recess time and never did jump ropes, 4 square, marbles, jacks, yoyos or hula hoops, all of which were very popular when I was young, and probably when our parents and grandparents were young, too, except for hula hoops. When I was in second grade one of the fads that went around was for all the girls to sit in a clover patch at the edge of the playground and make chains of clovers, which we then got to wear in class. The teachers wanted us to run around and get more exercise so that didn't last long. I've strayed a bit from the topic, but thanks for jogging my memories.

I remember a few of these that were listed.
Our area in Wisconsin has jump rope contests in the schools. I doubt they are saying the cute little songs as it is a speed contest to see how many jumps they can make in a minute or how ever long but they certainly are jumping rope.
