Husband has a classic car is wants to sell. He listed it on CL and got a reply that the person was sending a check for the purchase amount and hauling fees to a location out of state. With a little extra for our "trouble" dealing with the hauler. I told my husband that it was a scam. I could not believe someone would offer more then husband was asking for the car. I talked my husband into letting me reply the "buyer". I thanked the "buyer" for his offer and told him I would be willing to sell my classic car if he brought cash for the purchase price only and met me at our local sheriff's office. Never hear back from the buyer.

back when we used newspapers and grocery or church bulletin boards the same problems came up.
We have always specified cash, and with the exception of farm equipment, meet at the post office.
And we've used all the FB, craigslist, ebay, and local avenues. People are mostly good.
