Start in one place and keep moving along. Oh, and I learned you just have to toss it.

You can do it Wendy and you, along with the wonderful advice you've been given, have inspired me ... I have moved (over a year ago) and haven't put everything away ... I will set a goal to go through the many boxes (a whole room full) and get organized. :D You can do this ... and I can do this ...

After you get it all put away, keep up with it and it won't be so much work or time. When I'm at home I don't turn on computer until about 7 or 8 PM, otherwise it is too easy to sit and read or comment.
I'm at work during the day and work until my work is finished then I look around until I have more work to do. I'll be retiring in a couple of weeks, Daughter is taking over her work and mine so I'm teaching her my job and she is doing what I use to do and I just over see it is done right. Not much work left for me to do. Home stuff will get better and more often, I like a clean, magazine looking place. Like I had raising three kids, before I started working. Having all the pets I now have is about as bad as the three kids, only they can't do chores.
Stay on track and set a time to be on this board and you'll be done before you know it.
I know you can do it.

Wendy B., just wondering how you are doing. I am plugging along and getting something done each day. Overall, I think I am making progress, but somedays when I am tired I am ready to throw in the towel.

I've gotten so many tips from this posting. I am not alone in hoping you are having some success and will let us know how you are doing.

    Hugs :-)

I am thinking you can do it too! Sure it will be a job sorting everything out, but in the end you will be happy you did for yourself and your husband. Life will be easier too, no more looking for things or looking at the mess and saying "I really need to clean up this mess". AND the Treadle will be Home with you! and you can be trying your skill at using it! Good luck and best wishes for a job well done!

Yes it is Doable!!!!!I have finished 4 quilts in a month&half, all I did was dishes, laundry and clean bathrooms, just to maintain. Big mistake, am paying for it now. The big picture seems overwhelming and it was for a couple of days, but I have been working at it one room at a time- this is how I do it( keep in mind we are a family of 6) I start with 4 containers - I use tall laundry baskets I label them- Trash-Keep- Donate- and Other Rooms,, it's amazing what a little sign can do to make the job easier, I start in one corner and drop items in appropriate bin, working with the 2 second rule( you can finalize when you take a break) I work min. of 15mins,stop, check for full basket, if full put in place(I don't leave them sitting in the room I'm working in, for instance the donate pile I bag and go put it in my truck to drop off on the way to pick up kids, that way it doesn't end up back in the house. 15 more mins, break, put on a load of laundry or fold a load or spray down the bathrooms. You get the idea.Out of 12 rooms I have 3 done and one ready to dust , sweep and mop. I was really blown away with what 6 people can do to a house in a month& half. What I learned from this quilting marathon is SPEND THAT HOUR AND CLEAN HOUSE!An hour is usually all it takes to put everything to rights when I clean regularly, but I was so worried about making the deadline and not disappointing anyone that I ended up diappointing myself. So take it easy on yourself and remember slow and steady wins the race!!!!!! And yes it is DOABLE!!!!!!P.S. One more post and I am getting off and grab that duster , broom and mop  Thanks again for the spur
    What a great post!!!!!!!!!!!
    Many thanks!! :D:D

Thanks for all your good thoughts. I'm making very slow progress. I had the nerves in my back severed with radio frequency waves almost 2 weeks ago. They told me that it would take at least 2 weeks for it to work, as the nerves become very "ANGRY" and there is usually more pain before there is any relief. They weren't kidding. Standing, sitting is agony. It's now just my back but my butt and from my knees down to my feet. I can't describe the pain but needless to say it has stopped everything I can't do laying down. Even then, when I'm huring so bad, it just seems like I can't do anything. It's good to see that so many of you are getting alot done, although it makes me feel even more guilty. I'm hoping and praying that the procedure will kick in soon, very soon. I am so down in the dumps. I have all this stuff I need to get done but just hurt to bad to do it. I don't remember this happening when I had it done 3 years ago (the nerves grow back) but it was with a different clinic so maybe they do it differently. Anyway, my resolve is still there, the body is just having it's say right at the moment. Take care and again, thank you so much for your thoughts and inspirations. I knew I couldn't do it alone.
