Scary!! And I agree, pretty bold of that coyote with you standing so near. Do continue to be careful, coyote's have good memories.

And if you live in an area with Coyotes, keep an eye out for Hawks as well. Dogs as small as yours are easy prey for them.

    So glad all is well!!

I am so glad everyone is ok. We have coyotes around here too and I always worry when I take my 3 little dogs out. They only weigh 6 to 8 pounds. I know my oldest dog and the mother to the other two was with us on the boat when a storm came up from no where. To this day, 8 years later she is petrified when it rains or thunders. I hope the little ones will make a full recovery from this traumatic experience.

I've always watched for hawks and am always out there with the dogs. The hawks don't bother when there's a person standing right there. Usually coyotes aren't so bold either.

Is the natural food source low for the coyotes? We have dens all over in our area but they stay away from our yard unless the rabbit population drops then anything is fair game for them. cats, small dogs, chickens, anything they can get there mouths around.

People around here put food over the side of their decks. All kinds of animals eat it. I think the food source is so good that we are over run with them. I've heard other people complaining about how many there are. We used to hear them faintly at night. Now there are so many they wake us up sometimes. I think they smelled where they potty and knew they were here and they were easy prey.

How horrifying for you and the furry ones! We have coyotes and I worry about my dogs and they are 58 and 34 pounds. Coyotes are just so unpredictable.

Tomorrow I'm breaking out the shotgun. I won't have to aim as accurately as with the .22. It's locked up right now.
