I live in a CITY in NE ohio and with the wooded area bordering the property line I have a hawk or two as steady visitors and have seen coyote in the neighbors field. I have 4 dogs all smaller;30 lb, 22 lb and 2 6lb yorkies. we too have to stand guard to potty. the yard is fenced but that hawk doesn't respect the property line! scary, those critters are moving into cities

Always my fear too, the coyotes jump right over our wall and scope out the yard. We always go outside with our pets. Poor babies, hope they get over that unpleasant surprise.

So glad all got back to the house. Did you call your vet and explain what happened? Because the coyotte had the little guy in his mouth, your vet might want to give him a rabbies shot. Even if he has already had one, the vet might want to give him a booster.

poor babies. i think i would start a neighbor hood endeavor to not put scraps out. if the coyotes are that close. small children could even be in danger.

Oh my word! My heart just about stopped - I fell in love with those babies when you first put a photo up! Thank goodness you did your crazed woman routine in time! Give them hugs from me!

This is a fear of mine also. We have 20 lb Boston Terriers. They are tough little dogs but a coyote wouldn't have any trouble hauling them off.
I think you're right to take the shotgun. Just point it in the general direction & that will be one dead coyote!
    Be careful.
