what ever got him was still out in the back yard when we went to get our cat. the bushes rattled and it was then gone. i never saw it but our poor cat kept growling until then. perhaps it was a coyote. i've seen foxes before and now there are signs around town saying beware of coyotes. they just killed 9 of them because two very small boys were bitten recently. Everything is hungry and having to move their hunting places.
I am so sorry this happened to you. It had to be heart breaking. My heart was breaking when I thought he was going to run off with Cisco. As you can see though, it can happen even if you're right there.

I'd be "locked & loaded" waiting for the coyote to come back! I saw one near the barn last week and have had a bear hanging out near by the past 3 weeks.

a couple of months ago we spotted a coyote with a bunny in his mouth three houses down the block from us, trotting across the neighbor's yard. we are in the suburbs--but really, we are basically urban. the "big city" is just a mile or two away, and we are jam packed with houses and neighbors. there is no reason for a coyote except that they are growing bolder, and the city is growing up around them. i don't leave anything or anybody outside alone, any more!

What a scare. When my daughter's Aussie shepherd had puppies they had to be very cautious when the pups were out. We have hawks soaring and scouting here.

Oh my, what a scary morning. I'm so happy your little puppy is ok.
The coyotes have become so bad here around our lake that nobody has cats anymore. Coyotes got them all.
I am fearful for my little 6 lb Peke who likes to run up the rd. to visit.
The Dept. of Wildlife has given people permission to get permits & shoot them now.
My son had 5 pet chickens they let run around the yd. during the day & one disappeared. They found feathers where a coyote had grabbed it.

It is always so hard to keep the balance between wild and natural, and what is safe for our pets. We have an owl in the neighborhood that has been going after cats and small dogs lately!

    glad everyone is safe.

All's well that ends well! Glad they are OK.
We also have coyotes (NW Montana - in the mtns) who come close to the house at night, along with mtn lions, bears, wolves.
Our large dogs can fend for themselves, but I am concerned about the barn cat - just hope he is smart enough to hide up in the hay bales at night!

Thank heavens all are okay. I feel like I know each one after all the time spent with them thru these months.
