You are not obligated to give them anything nor are you responsible for this fiscal irresponsibility. But, perhaps, she really does need to feel the joy of giving this year since her life seems out of ocntrol.
JoAnn's is having a sale on polar fleece. 1/4 yard will make a scart to go around the neck. Take your rotary cutter and fringe the ends and you have a fast gift!

I think the cookie suggestion is a great idea. I also use to keep McDonald's Gift Certificates on hand for quick inexpensive gifts. Even teens like getting them as well as the 8 year old. If you have some left over, you can always use them yourself.
