My sweet DIL gave us an unexpected gife one year for valentine's day. It was a 6-pack of soft drinks with ribbons used to tie on a couple of packs of microwave popcorn and a $5.00 gift certificate for movie rentals.

How about some HM cookies or candy or sweet bread -- kids (and adults) love to eat!

I wouldn't feel obligated. Just because someone gives you a gift doesn't mean you have to reciprocate right then and there. Maybe at some point down the road, if you want to . . . but even then, I don't think you should feel obligated. I've received gifts from people in the past when I didn't want to get started in a gift-giving relationship. I just said thank you and moved on.

I agree. That is what I get for LOTS of people. Most people do not bake, or anything else that doesn't require buying, so my handmade/homemade gifts are usually well received.

I would hope your friend is giving your children gifts without expecting anything in return. As a friend she should realize that things are thight. I say don't spoil her blessing of giving gifts to your children by giving back to her children. Spme day you will be able to do something for her.Even if is watching her children . Have a Merry Christmas . And be thankful for her friendship

My cookies and fudge are always well received. When people see me coming, they speed up and head my way.

This is a good idea,Kids love cookies. My grandson years ago asked for cereal he couldn't find in his home town. I haven't seen a kid who didn't like some type of cookies
