Do you have a large coffee table, Donna?

Both my parents passed away in the fall of 1993. Mother died 3 mos. after Daddy - said she wanted to be with him for the holidays and she was.

Maybe just bring out about a dozen of your favorites and do a small display...it seems a shame to keep them all boxed up.

My husband died 6 years ago and for many years Christmas was a really hard time...still is in many ways, and now this year my brother died, and my dad has Alzheimer's and is only a shadow of who he was...so this Christmas will be hard too...thankfully, my niece has 1-1/2 and 3 year old kids who will add some joy to the holiday.

Here's what I do...I don't have a lot of them because I don't have the room for any more. I just have some sparkle fleece down. I used to elevate some of them but this year everything has to be simple. Last year I found a cord at Joann's that has 5 or 6 lights in a string for the houses so you only have to deal with one cord at the back.

I also know how you feel about the holidays. Even though it has been 13 years since I lost my husband, his birthday was on Dec. 9th so I always get that sad feeling at this time of year. He used to always tell me I made too much of a fuss about the holiday, but he sure enjoyed it when we all got together.
