Clementis vine
#11
Thank you for looking. They need full sun and cool roots so I put grass clippings around them or mulch. I do not cut it back after the season is done or in the spring time. Now is a good time to clean up the old stuff.

Thank you!! :D
One more question??
I just looked at mine closely. Some of the vines look dead but there are new leaves on them. Do yours do that??
I'm going to leave it for now as it's blooming and put some mulch around it.
Thanks

Add a touch of vinegar. My late DH was a nurseryman and said the key to growing a healthy plant was to find out where they grew wild, then try to duplicate that sun and type of soil. Clematis likes sun, but in our harsh California summer ours grows very well in light shade. My DH used to put some vinegar in the mulch every few months, and the relatively rare pink Clematis is now needing another severe pruning. It's growing and spreading rapidly and climbing the fence and trying to climb on the phone wires that come into my house. Growing it from seed is pretty easy, if you get the seeds a trifle young.

Yes, that was my first thought. It is lovely.
Do you know it's name? Must be a recent cultivar.

I was told not to put a clematis out by the mailbox-next to the road because it would be too hot. Every year it is taller than I am and I just ignore it. I have a friend who can grow anything, the one she planted died. You just never know...
