We quit work in '92, hubby on a small pension from Nynex (remember them?). It was really tight till I became eligible for soc sec disability in '96 and then even better 3 yrs ago when hubby hit 62. Keep in mind we had dynamite health insurance, a big plus. We sold our big house and moved into a paid for condo we inherited from my mom in Atlanta.

If I were in your shoes, I'd do it by steps. 1st put your house on the market and become a renter. Even for 4 or 5 years, maybe.

2 nd Put the money away for a next egg, can't ever have too much and you will need it to buy again if you choose to get another property.

3rd Start saving every nickle you can. Do go to Az or where ever for vacations and while you're there job hunt, look at property, rent a condo and try living like the natives. Go when it's hot.

I hate to agree with the negatives, but it's expensive to live everywhere now. Our electric just has skyrocketed here and we use it for both heat and AC and use lots of AC in the summer. Food is going up by leaps and bounds. We found car insurance cheaper here then Mass. and that might still be true, but you're not in a metro area, so it might not work out that way for you.

Start dreaming about retirement, you're close enough to make some plans, but don't throw away the job without a replacement just yet.

I used to live in AZ and loved every moment.
Tons of quilt shops in Tucson and the Phoenix area too. Lots of opportunities for new friends too

I lived in NH for 60 years and picked up that October and moved to Florida. My kids thought I had lost my mind but been here almost 9 years and would not go back there in the winter for anything. I hated everyday so much, the cold, snow and etc. I say do it!!!!!

I don't think its crazy at all mostly because I;m planning on a move of a 1000miles just to be where there is less winter stuff and I;ll be able to plant my garden inApr instead of June

I had a friend that wanted to move to another state with her husband and 2 kids but was afraid she wouldnt like it. Well move back it isnt written in stone you have to stay! so they tried it and didnt like it so they moved back.
Life is too short, move and try it. So far I have lived in 7 states! (I'm not a young woman I'm 62 closer to 63!)

Take a look at Texas. We aren't quite as hot as Az. We have a lot to offer. Big cities or small towns, you name it. & some of the best food you will ever eat. It won't take long before you will feel like what took me so long to get here.
