I'm going to a retreat in a few weeks and everyone brings a snack for the snack table. I recently made brownies and topped them with a peanut butter-cream cheese frosting. They went over really well and I thought about making the same thing for retreat. However, all the snacks sit on the table from Tuesday - Saturday. Would this kind of frosting need to be refrigerated? It's butter, cream cheese, peanut butter, and powdered sugar.

    Thanks for your advice!

ETA: the advertisement that popped up after this was posted was for JIF peanut butter. :-)

Yes due to the cream cheese. Could you leave it off and put some in a small bowl for guests to add their own. Just refresh the bowl as needed.

Thank you. The brownies didn't last long enough for this to be an issue - they were all eaten up at Bible Study :-). I'll just make what I planned before making the brownies last week. Earlier this summer I made mini-cupcakes w/ a lemon cake mix and dusted w/ powdered sugar. I have a strawberry mix and had planned (until trying out the PB frosting) on making those. So I'll just do them.

Yes it will need refrigeration. It will start running, and melt!

LOL! Around here, cream cheese frosting barely lasts long enough to be put on the cake. ;-)

OMG! My mouth is watering. Those brownies will be gone so fast you won't have to worry about Tues. pm, Wed., Thur. etc. Too bad I can't be there.

Yes, I would refrigerate, but as others have said, they probably won't last long enough to need it.

Now, can you please share the recipe?

1 box 13 x 9 (family size) brownie mix + ingredients on box (or use your own recipe). Bake as directed and allow to completely cool.

    5 oz. cream cheese (softened)
    1/2 stick unsalted butter (softened)
    2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
    1/3 cup peanut butter

Beat butter & cream cheese together until smooth & fluffy. Add powdered sugar about 3/4 - 1 cup at a time, mixing well with each addition, scraping down the sides of the bowl as necessary.
Beat 3 - 4 minutes on medium until light & fluffy
Add in peanut butter and beat until thoroughly blended.

    Top with chopped reese candies.

This is a half-batch, makes about 2 1/2 cups , and is perfect to top brownies. To make enough to frost a double or triple layered cake, double all the ingredients to make about 5 cups.

Frosting not an original recipe. Found here:
