Cute now - in four months, YUM!

Now I want chickens! And a brave person to butcher them for me! I can only imagine the wonderful eggs and meat products you get from your carefully cared for livestock. I have to buy my stuff in a grocery store and have no idea how the animals were raised or treated. Or shot with hormones, etc. Ick! I'll be over for a meal any time! I can just taste a soft boiled egg with one of those rich yolks!

I lived on a farm when I was very young and remember all the animals! My cousins are still on farms and their youngsters are involved with 4H. My Dad and step mom have goats, sheep, pigs, chickens , guinea hens and I don't know what else. My step mom has health problems and does not eat processed meats, she grows her own or goes without.
I do like to go to a butcher shop to get my meats here in the city, but I LOVE eating at the farms!
My SIL has a small farm and got animals when her kids were little, they named them all, and then when butcher time came, they couldn't eat Sir Loin, or Pork Chop, or anything called that! She doesn't name the ones she plans to butcher any more! :?

First steer we named "Edibull" ... he was mighty tasty ... and, the herd started growing, and I found out.
When the little buggers kick you and you want to say something really harsh?
If they have a name, you don't have to waste time searching for really searing adjectives! (if you know what I mean <g>)
Since the first one, we have eaten, Edibull, Delectabull, Chewabull, Carvabull, and quite a few Big Guy-s since hubby got tired of trying to keep the next butcher target's name straight.
Names are just handy, and are such fun to share with our friends who may or may not have ever lived on a working ranch/farm.

Omak that's so funny! My laying hens aren't given names (except Lily insists on calling the one who had chicks Lucy after her best friend at school) but we do call them things to tell them apart like 'Whitey' and 'Floppy Comb' so they kind of become 'names'. Whitey now wants to sit too so I'm off to the neighbour to swap more eggs! Hopefully the cockerel has taken some viagra!!!

She took them out this morning for a few minutes! No matter how many times I see that, I love it! All the other hens come bustling over to have a look see! I took the other eggs away, obviously duds!
