    so how does one go about making them? the ones I remember were big pieces of cloth that we had to fold down every time we washed them and you had to use rubber pants with them.

    OOPS sorry just googled and found many patterns most free

    The disposable diapers in those days were terrible and would cause red bottoms. AND you also had to use rubber pants with them cause they leaked bad.

    Cloth diapers may be a little more work but they save a great deal of money. Our son is 29 and I remember it used to cost $60.00 a month for disposables back then. I had a diaper service for the first six months but when I went back to work the babysitter's wouldn't use cloth diapers. They must cost an arm and a leg now.
