Did any of you have a HOPE CHEST?

I still have my hope chest. It was a gift for my 18th bd. My grandfather made it from cedar that came from my mom and dads land. Someday, it will belong to my only daughter. After that, who knows as I have 5 grandsons. I keep treasures in it from over the years.

It may have changed names later or in different areas.

Ihave my Moms I don 't know how old it is my sister who is 10 years older than me said she remembers Mom saying Dad gave it to her they would have been married 84 years this year and my sister said as kids they always sat on it. I have quilts and stuff from my kids when they were little in it. I was surprised my one daughter asked if I would leave it to her no one else asked so I guess she gets it

Yes, I think I got it for 8th grade graduation. My uncle and grandfather made one for my sister and I. I still have mine. When I got married I had pots and pans, dishes (from Duz), glasses (also from Duz), sheets, embroidered pillow cases, blankets, towels, silverware (from Betty Crocker). You name it and I had it. I think that's what started me collecting things. I'm an avid collector of a lot of things including "Fabric". I still have the pots and pans (stainless steel) and the silverware (which I have since added to). When I married at 19 there wasn't much that we needed. Next month we'll be married 44 years!!

Yes I did!!!!!!!!!!! It was a Lane cedar chest. I had china and all that stuff packed in cartons but in my hope chest I had all the wonderful handmade things I made for myself for my one day house. I had sets of embroidered pillowcase, tablecloths, kitchen towels and dresser scarves. Along with crocheted afghans. It was packet to the brin. I remember having to sit on it to close it.
Thanks for bringing this up it brought back happy memories.

I also have a Hope Chest growing up. My grandpa made my hope chest. When i was giving stuff or able to buy a few things here or there it went in the chest. I was raising in a ranching field and by my dad, We didn't have much but was very happy.
