I have a memory problem, a bad one! I purchased a couple of hour long timers. I have one by the computer which is in the same room where I quilt and sew. The other is by the TV. I do my best to remember to use them. That I can't help you with! LOL LOL But, if I remember to set the timer, when it goes off, I take notice. Now, whether or not I remember what the timer is set for is another story altogether! LOL LOL
Sorry to hear about the damage done, but the house did not burn and nobody was hurt. Are you able to replace just the stove top?
