agree with not buring them. I did that one year and they did very little, until the actually worked thier way to the top. smile. also they don'[t do much the first year after being moved, but I have moved them in all times of the year.

A hint about irises: Do not bury the root; just bury the tentacles or the root will suffocate. So dig a little trench, spread the tentacles out in it, lay the root on top and cover the tentacles with dirt. They won't bloom the next year but the second year they should be glorious.

I really appreciate all the post on this subject. I have irises around the east and south sides of the house, and they really need digging up and replanting. They've really become overgrown. Thank you to all who posted!
