I also got an external drive and it has worked great for keeping all of my quilting info on. Also if I am going to someone's house and know that we might like to look at something it is a whole lot easier to take that than pack up my lap top

Carbonite is a good suggestion for many people. I have no problem with free programs, but you do have to be vigilant during the download process. I agree that my grandkids get junk because of non diligence...I clean up their computers...but I use several free programs and have for years. Just have to watch what you are doing..and I am done on this topic.

You are a very wise computer user.

Just watch the source when you download a free program and you'll be fine. I'm lucky that my son is a computer engineer and has taught me so much. I clean my computer regularly and watch very closely as you do, being vigilant is the key.

I'm always wary of offers like this. It could be a source for someone to do things to your computer - just like the guy(s) who call to tell you there's something wrong with your windows because it's sending out certain signals; but, if you go to your computer, he can tell you how to fix it. I always say that I don't have a computer and they hang up.

I agree with OnebyOne. Carbonite is worth the price. I never even have to think about it. It's all automatic and also in the cloud. A back up device used at home could also be lost due to fire, flood, lightening strike, the dog ate it, etc.
