After i replied to this post it got me thinking about the pear and apple trees.. I went out and Here's what I picked from our trees.. I put a pepsi can to show you the pear size..More of a visual aide..

I am jealous. Pears are one of the few fruits that I like.

One of my favorites to do with pears is to make the recipe in the box of pectin, but add a jar of marachino cherries too. It's pretty pink then! I love pears fresh, and with jam, but don't care for canned pears.

    Tomato Soup
2 Gallons ripe tomatoes, cored, halved
    7 stocks celery
7 springs (or more) fresh parsley
    4 large onions, quartered
4 large green bell peppers, seeded, quartered
Simmer together until tender, then blend well in blender. Strain.

    Add: 7 Tbl flour
    5 tsp salt
    2 tsp paprika
    3 Tbl sugar
    1/4 tsp ground cloves
    3 Tbl butter
Blend butter into flour, whisk into tomato puree mixture. Simmer just to blend.

Bottle in clean glass jars in hot water bath for 20 minutes.
I will add this to my canning recipes. One ? do you peel and seed the tomatoes first?

No peeling or seeding the tomatoes because I puree it in the blender, then strain it. Saves lots of work!!

Love to can. I did a lot of Salsa this year because my tomato's went crazy but our apple and pear tree's didn't do a thing. (I pruned them too heavy last winter). I love to can fruits and veggies, I just get a lot of pleasure seeing those full jars! :-)

Ohh I would n't mind canning if I had the stuff to can. I have only done different kinds of fruits in season, I have only made jams.

25 yrs ago we had a farm of 30 acres. We canned & froze everything we grew. Made I cannot remember how many cases of pints of Plum Jelly & Salsa & Chow Chow one year. Enough that we fed everyone we knew for over a year. I loved doing it. That is one thing I really miss about having the farm. We had 4 growing, hungry kids back then. Now that it is just DH & I, all we put up each year is Peaches. I make Preserves as I need it throughout the year. Love Peaches!!!

My husband does more canning than I but I love to do it too. We didn't have much of a garden this summer as the heat was just awful but he made chili sauce and some jams.We buy from local farmers and freeze some things but eat most of it fresh :D
Your photos are beautiful!! I agree with the other poster- as beautiful as a quilt! :D
