Yes, they can climb, there is some stuff you can buy at Lowe's called snake off, maybe you could sprinkle it around the perimeter and it would ease your fears... I hate snakes also, but my husband tells me they are more afraid of us than we are of them... I doubt it... LOL

We have black snakes, and they are welcome, because since we have them, we don't have rattlers, and other poisonous snakes. Once in a while the girls will startle one out, but we won't let them hurt the snake. I have seen them come sliding down the roof and off the awning, lol. Does give you a bit of a surprise, but not near as much as it did the frog it was after.

I would prefer them to stay OUTSIDE, and tell them that when I see them. During Wilma, there was a small snake right inside the screen. We left it there until the storm passed, then opened the door and shooed it back out.

I would say yes, they do climb. My neighbor across the street went to open her back door to let the dog in and noticed the dog was very quiet and staring at something. When she opened the door but not the screen door, there was a large black snake curled around the door knob. It's a wonder I did not hear her scream (her daughters told me.)

Palm Trees...I live in the 'burbs of Los Angeles and rats in the tall palm trees are a problem. I am on the flats of a Valley so fortunately the snakes (espcially the rattlers) don't make it down here too much...lots of small lizards though...yuck

When I was a kid...low these many years ago..we had a dog that killed snakes. When ever we went to visit GM at the farm, we took Brownie. He could even kill rattlers, must have been part mongoose. LOL He finally died of old age. Always felt safe with him around. Oh, and he liked to chase mice, too. But the house was a wreck when he did. Let nothing get in his way. I really miss that dog.

Yikes! Both my husband and I hate the sight of snakes. My sister, Robin, can't even look at photos of them or anything on TV about them. Yes, those snakes can climb.
