I have been collecting the state thimbles for about 5 years now. When I go on vacation they are fun to get and takes up little space. Also they are fun to swap with others from around the world.

I have a few, I like to pick them up on vacations. I get three of each. One for me and one for each of my sisters that quilt. The problem is that I don't go on vacation much. I also try to find hankies when I'm on vacation--that's a little tougher.

I'm saving hankies from different places (and different estate sales) to use in some hankie quilts.

I have picked up a few, just for show not for use.

A couple of years ago, we went to visit a friend of my husbands in Baltimore and also went to Washington, DC. She buys keychains from every vacation they go on and place them on her Christmas tree to remind them of their past vacations.

Needless to say, I thought it was a great idea so have been doing the same. I love Christmas ornaments as my Mom only had a fake white tree with blue bulbs. We lived in California and she missed the snow. I have over 400 ornaments on mine, and still growing!! :) :) :)

The keychains are a cute idea. My travel souveniers are Christmas ornaments from where we've been. Makes for nice memories on the tree. no1jan - you're my kind of tree-trimmer. The more the better. I haven't counted in a while, but probably have around 300 or so. And growing.

I only collect thimbles from countries, so I only have a few of them. I have... Australia, New Zealand, St. Lucia, Haiti and Iceland. I originally started out with states, but decided the countries were more interesting, and harder to obtain. I keep all my thimbles in a small printer's box on the wall of my sewing room.
