When I was a kid my mother hid the money from her Christmas club, forgot where she hid it, and blamed me and my brother for stealing it. A year or so later when she pulled out her nightstand drawer to far and found $800 taped to the bottom of the drawer.

I am with you girl friend! I put two diamond rings away. They had been on my kitchen window ledge on a ring stand. I thought I should put them away. What if someone robbed our house. I was told never to put good jewerly in a visiable jewerly box . Or a dresser draw because that is where the look first. Maybe I need someone to rob me and I will have my rings back LOL Where or where is that hidding place that I will never forget. I think we should start a group called , Lost and Found. I lost my mind if it is found please return it. LOL

You are not alone. As a child I would hide my money all over the house so no one would find it and then forget where I hid it. My mom would be cleaning the molding over the door frames, repotting plants and find money and bring it to me as she knew I was the one who hid it lol
I still do that now (and still forget lol)

I used to do that, too, and I wasn't even old then!

During my mom's last remaining years, she developed severe short-term memory loss. The doctors said it was a form of dementia but not Alzheimer's. Anyway, she would forget where she put stuff all the time - she wasn't hiding things, she was putting them "away". Then of course she couldn't find them and accused whoever was around of taking it. Then much later, when she would find it, she wouldn't tell anyone because I guess she would be embarrassed. So then someone would see her wearing the pin that had been "stolen", but by then she had forgotton that it had been "stolen" and told us we were crazy and denied ever saying such a thing! Although it may seem funny, it really got to be a very serious thing and became very hard to live with. (She lived with me the last 4 years of her life and with my sister for 5 years before that.) The condition just got worse and worse and could have been anything from her crochet hook or a knitting pattern to her wedding ring or cash or a check. It also involved depression and anger. You had to constantly remind yourself that this wasn't her, it was the disease, but it was still hard.

She is resting in peace now, and even though it was difficult sometimes, I miss her so much.

I don't think I'm developing dementia, but I sure do "misplace" things - I just say a prayer, even out loud, to St. Anthony, and whatever I couldn't find always miraculouly turns up!

Yep, I do it too LOL. At work I'm forever leaving my cup or glass at someone elses desk or on top of a file cabinet or by the copier etc. At home, I always put things in a very safe place ... so safe that I can't find it again
