Barbara, I would be very interested in all of your findings I have this machine with the Embroidery module and have never use it. I don't have a PC now to use it. I have a Mac. You do have to hook up to your computer don't you? I did not take the class because I live in a different area than were I bought the machine. I wish I could help you and you could help me. Please let me know. Thanks.

Yes you have to hook up the lap top to your sewing machine for it to read the program. but when ever you do do it you have to download the new program Art Link 7 for it to work.

You can go to the Bernina help desk and they will walk you through every step. The 440 does need a computer hooked into the machine in order to get and run the designs. You shouldn't have to download the program every time you want to use the embroidery module. You may be able to use Mac for the programs now too.
