She donates the old stuff and gets a tax break. Hubs and I bought good quality, and I am so sick of looking at it 40+ years later!! But it is still too nice to replace because of wanting a change. We could, but it just seems silly.
You know, you could donate it, take the tax credit, and buy something new. . . . . just a thought! 8-)
Or, have it re-upholstered, your frame is better than new!!
Or, you can donate it to ME!!! :) :)

hey chalk it up to good taste. You should also ask when they have a sale coming up. I also grew up in the same circomstances you did, having to make careful purchases. But if you know quality it is hard to find what you want on sale. I always say " I know I'm rich if I go into a store and pick out what I want and never ask the price." Must be great to be able to do that at least once in a while.:)

I have always had champagne taste & a beer budget - lol!

I can recognize & am drawn to the best, but I know I can't afford it. I usually am a "middle of the road girl" when it comes to store bought. I do shop a lot at thrift stores and take advantage of other used goods outlets, or just make do. Since my dh retired, I have to be more creatively frugal in all ways....(but I dream about winning a lottery - lol!)

This is the story of my life. My mother will tell you that as a small girl if given a choice of 3 different pairs of shoes, I would always choose the most expensive ones.

I love a bargain as much as the next person, but there are some things I will not scrimp on.

I think some of us just place a greater value on quality, so we know it when we see it.

Sounds very much like DH and me...sometimes we splurge, most times we save, and we have a "when we win the lottery" list too! :D
