In my family we have many who have started the military tradition in our younger generation. I have a nephew who recently finished 5 years with Marine Corp which included two tours in Iraq doing convoy security, my son and his wife are both active duty Marines, another nephew has signed up on delayed entry and will head to Marine bootcamp summer of 2012. I also have a nephew in the airforce, one in the national guard and and niece and her husband in the air national guard. I am so proud of them all for their service.

My Dad was in the 101 Airborne and in the Korean War -- he served his 4 years and then got out.
My oldest son (now 28) enlisted in the Kentucky Army National Guard while still a senior in high school and I had to sign the papers for him to enlist.
He is now on his 3rd deployment (Germany, Iraq and back to Iraq). He has 3 darling little girls (ages 5, 2 & 2 months) that he had to leave behind this time with his wife. They live about an hour away so we take care of his yard and try to help her as we can...it will be a tough year for all of us once again.
We thank all the service people and their families for the sacrifices they give each day. It's a tough life and we're proud our son has it in him.
Please keep him in your thoughts along with all our troops.

I have relatives all direct in every single war/conflict going back to the Revolution. I'm just one marriage certificate away from proving that I'm eligable to be a DAR.
My mom is still in the Coast Guard. My dad tried to go to Nam, but since his father was killed as a POW in WWII, the Navy rejected him.

My husband served in Vietnam, just missed Desert Storm, and served in Iraq, Kosovo and Afghanistan. Forced into retirement at the age of 60 in 2009.
We deal with PTSD every day. But he loved being a soldier and was never as happy as when he was in uniform serving his country.
Son-in-law is currently in Kuwait and is due home in the Fall.
Military families live a different life and it's not for everyone. But we loved it and miss it.
