used a fan to cool off to sleep in long beach california when my ex was in the navy. only problem was that i slept through many winter storms. the fan blowing was like the storms i went through when i was a kid. but now i sleep with the tv on all night so maybe the sound was what i needed......

yes even in the dead of winter we have the window AC set to fan mode, hubby insists that it be extra cold in the bedroom;I even have to cover up the vents to keep the heat out and the cool in; we also live on a noisy road so it does help drown out the road noise. I can't wait to move because there won't be any noise where we are going.
To compensate for the ice box I am forced to sleep in I have a heated mattress pad that I turn on before I go to bed so when I do get into bed it is nice and toasty warm. I do not turn on his side because once again he hates it to be warm warm on his side of the bed.

How weird to have this old thread pop up again!
I used to run a box fan in my son's room when he was an infant. It provided white noise that helped him stay asleep, since his room was very close to the kitchen. However, one day I walked in his room and smelled burning electronics. The fan had received lots of really heavy-duty use over 10 years, and the motor had worn out. I was glad it hadn't caught fire.
