I have a pressure cooker and use it occasionally. I have an old one that belonged to my mom or grandma. I am usually in the kitchen whenI am using it and set a the timer all the time. I used it way more when kids were at home and going to sports practices. I have even used it on a wood burning stove for making turkey soup at a Scout leader camp. I have never had a mishap with it.

I have a very good newer one. I used to have a Presto and it worked well too. Most of the horror stories of pressure cookers was because the user didn't follow directions or watch it. I've considered the electric ones but I don't like teflon. Those of you that have one, are they still teflon lined?

I have one,I use it all the time. The newer ones have a safety valve on them.Mine has a safety valve, another safety feature is the side window"as they call it". It is a place in the lid that will blow the gasket, before blowing the cooker.Mine also has a screw on bobber,so it can't blow off if it gets too much pressure,it will let steam out then begin to bobble again. You just can't put any thing in them that swells as it cooks, like pasta or pinto beans.Green beans out of the garden can be done in 15 min.I really love mine.
