At the guild I belong to all guests and visitors stand up, one at a time, and are introduced to all and welcomed by all. If you do not introduce and welcome visitors- why invite them?

Yes, I tried welcoming a newbie. And on her second visit. Got the impression she didn't want to share. As I am shy also and I was stepping out of my comfort zone, I let other members welcome her after that. It goes both ways. I've been lucky to be a member in two friendly guilds and know of two more.

Maybe you and I should get together and start our own guild! I had a similar experience. When it was time for show and tell, the guild members skipped over my two friends and I, even though we had brought our WIP with us (they were folded up on our laps)! None of us plan to go back. Sad.

I hope you find another guild. I suppose we should look outside of our immediate towns for more a more welcoming group. Good luck!

What a horrible experience for you!! I would never go back if that happened to me. I belong to the American Sewing Guild and it is the friendliest group of people in the world. Feels closer than family. I hadn't realized that until you posted your story. I feel very lucky!

Others sat in front of me and others sat behind me and beside me. Talked all around me and no-one said a word to me even though I was wearing the sticker announcing my visitor status. They did announce my name with others and I raised my hand to show where I was sitting. Still no welcome from anyone or any attempt to be friendly. The lady sitting next to me was making rude remarks about the lady doing the FQ raffle, making fun of her voice. Heard others making remarks also that were not kind. I could not hear much of all because of the room acoustics. At break time, I quietly got up and left. Not my kind of quilt guild at all. I tried talking to the woman next to me but she was not interested at all. I am wondering what I should have done to have had a better experience......
THAT WAS NOT RIGHT OF THEM I WOULD HAVE LEFT ALSO AND SPREAD THE WORD THEY ARE NOT A FRIENDLY BUNCH SO BECAREFULL IF YOU WANT TO JOIN THIS CLUB.

it is really sad that people are like this I have in the past enjoyed the quilt guild but not anymore either I have changed or all the new people coming in are different as it is not friendly and the churches are exactly the same way they act like we are not even there and go off in their own groups so we just stay home we have met so many other people like us oh well more sewing time

Try finding a church with a quilting group.Or even talk to the ladies in your church and start your own.-- Go on-line check for local quilt groups looking for new members
