I had a similar experience in the LQS when I first moved to this area and didn't seek out a guild for that reason. I have since met some really nice ladies who do belong to a guild and I have been thinking about joining but they meet on a day that I have another obligation so I could only go occasionally.
I'd go again and keep an eye out for another visitor to see if you can make sure she has a good experience and maybe find a quilting buddy. It's hard to be the new kid on the block and you'd think adults would behave better than children but it is not always the case. When they have a project and need workers you'll fit it just fine

Doesn't sound like a guild I would want to join!

I have not had an experience such as yours but I was told to try the smaller guilds on the outskirts of my city. It meant driving a distance but it was worth it because this smaller group was very welcoming. Too small for cliques.

I would have left as well. I would likely write a letter to the Guild explaining my reasons for leaving and my disappointment in their lack of welcoming from their membership.

Perhaps they are not aware of their lack of hospitality, their members attitudes toward guests and speakers - perhaps they need a little "attitude" adjustment.

I went to a class at my LQS which is also a group of people that meet regularly. All have been in the area for ages and I am new.
My machine was made fun of-it's mechanical and an inexpensive Singer-my fabric was not cutesy or classy enough-Moda, Kauffman, etc I hadn't bought it there- and because I did not want to stay all night-the class was advertised for 10am to 6pm-I am married-I was dismissed.
I still stop by occasionally for fabric but have decided to shop on line and with my BFF when she visits or I visit her.
The owner complained to me that too many people shop on line and that it is bad for business. I felt like telling her rude and cliquish people were bad for business.

I would have done the same thing. It doesn't sound like the kind of people that I would want to be around.
