I love hand embroidery. I just had another eye operation and the stitches came out yesterday. On the 22nd, I'll have another eye surgery, so that should help. i'm getting my carpal tunnel done on my left hand and probably right hand. Now i can see and i can see what i do. Looking forward to hand emb. and counted dross stitch. It's a lost art, especially with all the mach9nes. I was a casket embroiderer and it was a fun good job. Hopefully, now i can go back to sewing by hand again. Oh, and with these operations, i'll be stitching up a storm.

I love hand embroidery and counted cross stitch. My husband bought me an embroidery machine many years ago but I never learned to use it. I would much better relax with a needle and thread in my hand.

I just started a mandala for my DD. Really needed to not spend hours on the computer or eating--I try to spend evenings with DH watching tv after supper and can't just sit--have to be working on something.

My Grandmother taught me how to hand embroider. I cherish the things we made. I still combine it with hand appliqué! It is a quiet
    part!

Lynnie, You are not the only hand embroiderer! I did a little before I retired, mostly counted cross stitch but now I am trying my hand at threadpainting/needlepainting mostly animals, birds, flowers. I had hand surgery once and even after all the physical therapy, sewing and embroidery were the very most helpful in regaining use of my hand 100%. They should use that for PT! Hope your eye surgery and carpal tunnel surgery goes well and recovery is quick. Good luck. We would love to see your stuff!

I realize this thread is 12 years old, but just want to chime in on hand embroidery. I love it! I am currently working on the 50 state bird and flower blocks to make into a quilt. I look up each bird online to see the proper colors, and I'm learning a lot about American birds that way. Love doing the embroidery, and watching the birds and flowers come alive with color!

I have a cross stitch stocking I've been working on for 2 years for my then new granddaughter. I cannot see the pattern, so I dont do it often. Even with a magnifier and light. And then I cannot work on it at night. Oh the glories of getting older!

I do hand embroidery in the evenings while watching (listening) to the tv..

So far I have made a dozen tea towels, quilt squares (butterflies, camping trailers (work in progress), Vintage Tin garage one).
I have my Gram's pillow cases she made in the 70's. A lot of hand work by my Mom. My prized possession made by her hangs in our dining room, the scene from the last supper.

1st photo is the pillow cases my Gram made.
2nd and 3rd are the pillow cases my Mom did.
4 and 5 are the tea towels I made.
