OMG! I bought a new freezer last year & it's only half full. I guess I'll be freezing instead of canning this year.

I used to do a lot of canning when we had the kids at home. My dad retired and loved to garden. He would raise a hugh garden every year and my sister and I would cann most of the summer. He only asked that we give him enough for him to use for the year. We both had families with little kids and it was a win/win deal. Now the kids are grown and we are both working full time and dad is older but he still has a small garden patch to putz in.

Gota feed the family this winter :D
Pickled beats, green beans, tomatoes and freeze corn and peas. I don't ever have to buy vegetables in the winter (with the exception of potatoes).

When my husband was alive we traveled in our RV and would can in the campground on a three burner Coleman stove. He built a folding shelter to go around the stove on the picnic table. It worked fine. We would even go to the boats on the Oregon coast and buy tuna and salmon and can them in jars. No comparion to the store bought. Just don't use Coleman in the house.

I have had a glass top stove for 30 years and have canned and pressure cooked every thing from A to Z and have never had a problem.

I canned 11 quarts of poke salad and 3 pints of pickled okra over the weekend. Does anyone have a good recipe for pickled okra. I am wanting to try different recipes until I find the one I like best.

I'm doing pear mincemeat tomorrow. Still need to do one more set of zucchini relish, then that is done for this year. Haven't done pickles yet though.

I have had a glass top stove for 30 years and have canned every thing on it. Ten years ago we remolded our kitchen and I got a new glass top stove and haven’t had any problem. My daughter also cans on a glass top and has for 12 years with out any problems. I know of several ladies that have glass tops and can all the time. I have read where some tell you not to can on them but I can’t believe they could sell them and not be safe to can and do the same as you do on any stove top

I had a recipe for apple pear jam for about 30 years before I finally made it a few years ago. Still make it in the fall and have added apple butter and apricot pineapple jam. Prices of fruits are very high this year so I may not be making much jam. May in Jersey
