Default Does anyone save wooden thread spools any more?

I have some spools with weak thread on them - but they are wood.

So - I am willing to save the spools if anyone is still using them.

Otherwise, into the trash it will go.

There is a sewing machine that uses the small ones as a bobbin. There is a thread and the post with pictures at Found A National " Two Spool" in the middle of nowhere.
Would love to have one to wind thread on the old wooden spools.

Oh my...your post brought back a forgotten memory for me. My mom sewed all our clothes, coats, diapers, curtains, etc., and would save the spools. She'd give them to us, with crayons, buttons and a length of yarn, and my sister and I would make necklaces!

I just donated a bag of them to a local "re-use -resource" art supply store.

I gave a couple to my cats to play with. It's fun to watch them swat it and it rolls off into the blue yonder. They go chasing it and do it again. Once I month I get under all the rolling carts to fetch all their toys out from underneath. Also the china cabinet is a haven for their lost toys.

I did the “snap test”. Meaning if the thread snapped easily, I put those spools in a large clear flower vase for display only. I had several vases of spools (some with thread and some empty) in my sewing room and since I’m downsizing ( somewhat), they were sent to the auction house. They sold for about $6 to $10 per vase.

I have a few very old ones but I have seen new decorative thread sold on large wooden spools now like Ric Rack, ribbon, and wool thread.
