My dogs have the run of the house, and can go out whenever they want via the doggy door, they are all house broken. I have a smooth coat chow and a pit bull/chow and am fostering a lab/boxer puppy for the Humane Society.

Personally, I don't worry about it. I'd rather have my dogs than an immaculate house

We have 3 Golden Retrievers that we adore, but along with it goes the dog hair. We put up a little sign in the hall that says 'No outfit is complete without dog hair'. To me, that says it all. And I buy lots of lint rollers!

marsye, we do actually use the little round brush & vacuum our dog, he likes the feel of it, but he won't stay in the house for the general vacuuming sounds.
We have put omega-3 oil on his dry dog food for years, it doesn't stop the hair from falling out....it's supposed to give it a shine...maybe it does/doesn't, who knows?

We love our dogs as much as our (now grown children). I just accept the fact that they do shed ALOT. It helps if you pick carpet that has the colors of your dogs. Then the fur doesn't show as much. They bring me as much pleasure as quilting!
(and they don't ask for money, stay out late and not call, or require college tuition.......)

My Bellaboo's shedding was getting out of control. I had dog hair everywhere. I asked the old Vet if there was anything sort of shaving her that would help. He just said that was part of having a dog. The new Vet (fresh from school) said to put her on holistic food and I'd probably see a big difference. I did! She shedding stopped dramatically. The brand I buy is Blue, dry and canned. Since the food has no filler of any kind or gluten, she eats less and so poops less. I bought Blue for cats and my inside cat doesn't leave hair all over me when I pet him now. Everyone I know that has switched to the holistic pet food has said it was a miracle for the shedding problem.

We shaved our long haired cat with a flowbee. (not an easy task)
She didn't like it at first, but it took her about 1 hr to decide "hey this ain't bad after all"
There's less hair around the house, no brushing for awhile & everyone seems to be much happier  ;-) ;)  ;) ;-)
