I would not suggest carpet, no matter how good the dog is and how well trained, my experience is they do have there bad days and accidents happen! We have two schuz suis (sp wrong) and a yorkie and they all three have used the rug and I shampoo quite often  Jus my opinion tho

We have had carpet in many rooms and have had several dogs with no problems of them going potty on it. Yes, they do get sick and that is a problem if they find the carpet. It you train them well you should be fine. It really is up to you on what you want to do.

One of the problems with animals and carpet besides the "accidents" are if they lay where ever they want to, like my dogs, then eventually the carpet will have "oily" spots from their hair, if it's a light carpet then it shows quicker and is more noticeable. We finally put Pebble Tech now in our old home. I loved it. Where we are now, we put down laminate, which the dogs don't like, it's much more slippy.

I have hardwood floors and 'had' a Boxer. Her toenails dug into my hardwood. I have also had carpet and dogs. That's not so good either. I would either go with linoleum or laminate and maybe rugs. Just my advice.

If you get a rescue dog, it will probably already be trained, so the carpet will not be an issue. Some dogs will "mark" their terrority once just to let other dogs know it is their domain. I have a very big dog and he has a hard time walking on wood floors, I have to have throw rugs down so he can walk from one room to another. He slides all over if I don't have the rugs down, the pads of his large feet are just to slippery.
