WOW - fantastic close-up pictures! My hummers have just about disappeared here in SW MO. Haven't filled my feeders in several days. The few that are here seem to be mostly resting and not eating. Just sitting on poles, etc. (where I feed my regular birds) and grooming themselves!

I love your pictures. I only have a few that come back every year. Would love to have so many.

    I just love the pictures.
I need to take mine down, clean and refill them.
I have bees all over them too!
Going to try the "trick" of wiping olive oil around the openings. The feeders do have the bee thingy to not let the bees in, but these bees are smart!

We have feeders, but the ants keep getting to them, even when we hang them from the trees. I HATE ants!!!

love your photos - I have one feeder in my front yard and I sit at my sewing machine and watch them and nothing gets done. Need to keep my camera near me. Think I'll buy a few more for the front and some for the back of the house. And thanks for all the advice on cleaning. So far, I don't have an ant problem but if they come, I'll know what to do!!

Why do you boil the sugar? I was feeding them the red nectar but my neighbor said give them plain sugar water. She didn't say anything about cooking it. I just mix the water and sugar. Tell me what to do????

There's 2 reasons to boil the water. 1.) so the sugar will dissolve & 2.) to kill bacteria. There's no need to add food coloring. It's best not to. The ratio is 4 to 1. 4 parts water 1 part sugar. It can be kept in the frig for a few weeks before spoiling.
