Double knit /Cotton
I have a lot of this and it is all plain colors. Do you think I could make the rugs that everyone is making with this? Maybe cut the 2 1/2 inch strips against the stretch? What do you think? Will it work?

I would try it in a heart beat. My sister has made several rugs with it. She had a pile of double knits years ago and made not only a throw quilt she made rugs. They hold up very well. She made these were made about 25 years ago or more and she still uses them.

Are you talking about cotton interlock?
If so - it is an awesome fabric - it mostly stretches crosswise, with comparatively little lengthwise stretch.
My Mom used to weave rugs on a two-harness loom, and she would use knits a lot - but she cut them so the strips were not stretchy.
I used to wash the fabrics before passing them on to her. She would not have liked wavy edged rugs caused by uneven shrinkage of the components used.
I think she made one rug from nylons. She did not enjoy the experience.
