my daughter is a born-and-bred NYC/Manhattan kid. She had no reason to drive til she went away to college. Got her license for that after having a permit for years. She inherited my mom's car and used that til a deer hit her and totalled the car. We replaced it with a pick-up and she loved having use of that! LOL...very few of her friends learned to drive til later, too. No need here. Subways, buses, and taxis...I dealt with her adolescent years with all that nonsense at least assured there would not be any car accidents due to illicit drinking. Whew, that was sure a relief.

I would LOVE not having to drive! My niece and nephew I mentioned don't and my son in DC has no need for one, either.
I hate freeways, they make me panicky :(

Congratulations to your DD.

Glad to see that you're making them invest in the process.
With the cost of gas I would add that to what they are responsible to pay. They will quickly learn the value of the dollar. It will help them to plan their trips wisely, as we are doing more and more, and not make unnecessary trips or drive their friends around.

My girls both learned to drive at age 16 (I was the teacher!!). My oldest grandaughter learned at 16 (I was the teacher again!). Simplest way to solve the "Mom's Taxi" issue is simply to refuse...if they are old enough to get their license then they either get it and drive themselves, take a bus, or get a friend to take them. :-)

Congrats to your daughter! I'm with you, I'd rather quilt and spend my money on fabric :)
