I have had both problems with them. I had to pry one off using a flat screwdriver and the second one fell off during the first use of it. I now have one in a package, debating if I want to put it in the dryer or not. I thought they did a good job for a long time.... I will decide sometime down the line...lol

Does it leave a stain on the clothes if they land on it when the dryer stops?

I also have balls. They are great, since I have allergies to some of the fragrances. Also, the dryer sheets also leave residues that are bad for the dryer. I hadn't heard of the dryer bars.

My daughter has balls too...I really like them as well - no residue to block the vent in the dryer and cause a fire!!!

Kinda sounds funny that I'm now playing with my daughters balls while she is in Afghanistan

I've used them for quite some time and I really like it., I don't remove the whole thing, when I put a new one in, I just push down on the end, the old one slides out and I slide a new one in...

Walmart has a product called goo gone that might take the sticky off. Someone said the second bar would not stick, possibly because of residue in the dryer?

Yes, I had put the grandkids coats in the dryer because they had been out in the snow and were drenched from head to toe. When she came to pick them up she gets the coats and the dryer bar! It also left some of the sticky tape on that for the life of me I can't get off. It hasn't affected the clothes but it bothers me everytime I dry a load of clothes. I tried to put a new one in -- in a different spot but for some reason the new one wouldn't stick! Go figure!
Goo Gone will get the sticky residue off no problem
