(duh) How to post an avatar from an iPhone?

Feel stupid, but how can I use a pic from my iPhone as an avatar without using a pc? Do all my posting and browsing from iPhone since kids always using laptop for homework or games. No photos on pc anyway.

I have to email the photo to myself and then save it from there...I haven't tried to do it directly from the phone. =/
Interested in the answer to this one also..probably a pretty easy thing ...as it usually is when I don't want to pay attention to the technical details. =)
