NZ has received (and accepted) offers of assistance from America.

Australian personnel are projected to arrive at midnight tonight.

Everyone I have spoken to either has friends, family or work colleague in Christchurch.

Many (if not all) regional hospitals in the North Island and South Island have cleared non-critical patients and canceled upcoming elective surgeries to make room for those from Christchurch. I know that many patients have already been re-directed to the regional hospitals, and received into Intensive Care, and Neonatal intensive care facilities.

Estimated (unconfirmed) death toll projection is now 200-400 people.

Yes, I have just seen details of this terrible tragedy on TV, and my heart goes out to everyone affected by this earthquake. My thoughts and prayers go out to those poor frightened people.

Niece lives in NZ, not Christchurch, but is part of a rescue group that has been dispatched there. 65 confirmed dead and the count is rising. Second quake in a short time so everything weakened with the first one crumbled with the 2nd. Prayers sent for everyone involved.

International assistance has been offered by Australia. From what I understand the offer has been accepted.

Specially trained dogs are on their way to search for survivors and for the deceased.

My family in Christchurch are all okay. Shaken but alive.

Very very tragic situation. There is so much devastation.
I'm glad your family is okay! Praying for those who are injured or trapped and also the rescue workers. Hugs!

My prayers go out to those affected by the earthquake in New Zealand. Prayers for the family and friends of the dead. Prayers for healing of the injured and prayers for calm and peace for the scared and anxious. Prayers for the safety of our board members who live in the area hit. Prayers for the first responders and those coming from afar, for the strength to do their job of rescue. And finally, prayers for that nation's recovery from this terrible tragedy.

    May God Be With You

To give you an idea of the scale of this disaster. NZ has accepted help from Britain, Taiwan, Singapore, and Japan.

This already compliments the support provided from Australia and America.

If a country needs that much help - you know it can't be a good situation.
