you are lucky you didn't have the wasps going into the walls. I had some come in from the upstairs window. they had a tiny hole.

It was lint that had been collecting there for almost five years I guess, since we built our house that long ago.
I cleaned that out and then noticed a wasp going in the pipe near the vent. Looked in that next and saw a wasp's nest!!! Got my spray out and squirted it in there. About a half hour later went out and got a coat hanger and pushed it up . Pulled out a nest that was about 1 1/2 in. in diameter and about 6 in. long.
Thank goodness I saw all this activity. Surprised there wasn't any damage inside because of everything being clogged up.
Check your pipes and vents to make sure you don't have any problems in the future. Glad I accidentally saw this.
Rosemary you need to get one of those cover to go over the pipe that open when the dryer is on and closes when it not. It will let the lint out and keep the bugs and bird out also

the lint collecting there will cause your dryer to overheat...glad it didnt...fires start really easy from the lint

it is very important to clean out your dryer vent at least once a year- if you use your dryer year round and do alot of laundry maybe more often- i check mine every couple months-
it is a FIRE DANGER! according to our fire department- dryer lint is the number one cause of house fires!
    never let it build up.

great that you noticed yours before something bad happened.

It is a good thing you found it. The collection of lint in that vent definitely was, and is, a fire hazard.

Thanks for the reminder, mine needs to be cleaned too. Glad everything went ok for you. I would not be that brave with wasps.
