That is a great idea you developed. Necessity is the mother of invention. Really!

I often copy knitting patterns too to keep my original in good shape.

That's good to know! I was especially attracted to the mirror capability, which none of my older machines have had. I could do a blanket stitch on my Elna Super, but it required me to put the entire quilt through to the right of the needle.

What a great idea! Are you enjoying this machine? I've been looking at it recently, considering purchasing since it has such good reviews. I'd appreciate your input!

I also like to take the manuel and get it professionally bound. The pages will then lie flat.

I loved this machine until the main circuit board went out 90 days after I bought it. It was fully covered by the warranty, but the only place in the greater Houston area that does authorized Singer warranty service is an hour away. I'm lucky that at least I didn't have to ship it somewhere. The store owners were wonderful, but it took weeks for Singer to get the part to them. It is probably made in Asia. I think at the price I paid I'm probably still going to get my money's worth out of it, but depending on what happens next, I can't recommend it to others. Maybe the circuit board problem was just a fluke and I'll enjoy it for 10 years, but it's just too soon to say, and by that time, who would care whether it worked out or not? I predict that unless Singer does quite a few things differently very soon, there will be no such thing as a new Singer to buy 10 years from now. I suspect it's a matter of no concern to the company that makes them now, which also makes Vikings and Pfaffs. However, you could easily pay 3 times as much for a machine that is not necessarily going to be better. I just may wind up glad I bought it after all.

Before buying any machine find out what you'd have to do in order to get warranty service. Do not assume, as I did, that a sign in Jo-Ann's saying "We service Singers" would include warranty service. It does not.
