Here is the story...

I live in a very wooded area which is my problem.

I Have humming bird feeders

First come the yellowjackets but the birds can handle these guys fairly well.

About two weeks ago these huge hornets stated showing up and I mean huge. 1 1/2" to 2" long

Rather agressive.

I looked up what they are. European hornets. They nest in wooded areas, in trees.

I think it would be almost imposible to discover the nest. THey fly into the trees and from there I can't follow very well.

I don't know how to rid these interlopers from the feeders. Birds can't get to feed anymore.

I am very sad about this. I think the only thing to do is not have the feeders.

My heart is sad over this.


any suggestions other than poison cause I don't want to poison anything.

I don't Know if this will work for these Hornets But i was at a Fair and a 'Beekeeper' Show explained away to Stop Wasps and other such from coming around: You take a Brown Grosry Paper bag Blow it Up and make It look like a Wasp Nest Hang It out Near Your Area you don't want the other Wasp to come and they will go away!

I am having problems with the yellow jackets and ants. Feeder hanfing in the front from an awning had about 100 or more dead ants in it. One in back hanging from soffit had about 100 or more dead bees in it and the bees cover the top, where the holes are and run the hummingbirds away. I hope this weekend with cooler temps will keep the bees away. The Hummingbirds will leave here next month as our days will be getting shorter. I didn't have this problem for couple of years, now they are back. Don't use any poisins as you will kill the hummingbirds also. I live in a rural area too.

Revoke their visas? Sorry, I know it's not funny to be plagued by bugs. My roses were consumed by Japanese Beetles this year. I think you will have to take down the feeders for this year. If the hornets are very aggressive they could pose a danger to you or your pets.

I read somewhere....move the feeders. Clean them and fill them. The hummingbirds will find the new location by sight but the bee/hornets remember location. It is worth a try~

I have a feeder outside my sewing room window. Last year a hummingbird and a lizard fought over the feeder.....It was so funny to watch. The hummingbird finally one out

Sorry I was On my way to a meeting! the reason this works is Wasps are Territorial and If they See this Other Wasp Nest they Will think they are IN some other Wasps Area!
