Some folks prewash so when the urge to quilt strikes, the fabric is ready.

I am not a fan of pre-cuts or fat quarters. Rather buy a five, nine or ten inches of fabric or even half of a yard to use in other ways.

We had a saying in the 60s "Different strokes for different folks".
I don't like pre cuts, I'm "sure" I will need more than a FQ and there are usually fabrics in a jelly roll or a layer cakes that I don't like. And they are more expensive. And my scraps are left overs from fabric I like.
