My sisters and I mostly use it to share pictures of family with each other - we all live in different states - so it's covenient to see the nieces and nephews photos online....but I agree...people want to share way too much these days.

There are steps that you can take to make sure your privacy is protected. I am an ex police officer (had to medically retired in 2000). On Facebook, you have to set each app to a certain setting. For instance, my pictures - some can be viewed by "friends" only, some can be viewed by "friends of friends" (this one I use for my items I have for sale). Some no one can see other than myself. I also have what I call my "gamers". They have no access to anything other than my name (I have old friends from high school find me). I also have my privacy settings so that only friends can see what I or other friends have posted.
Then on my cell phone--When I do take a picture with it, it's not anything that I put on the internet or send through texts. I also don't have the GPS activated.
My digital camera, I don't have a GPS on it.
You really have to know how to set up a page on FB, My Space, or any of those type pages.

I have no pics posted on my FB account and now I see that I probably won't. I do get pics from others but they all have been on my "friends" list. I have been deleting a lot of "personal" info that was originially put in when the account was set up. I really don't use FB much. I am here on the QB much too often. And if I am not here, I am either sewing or at work. I am not impressed with FB. Thank you for the warning.

If you have your fb profile set not to show up in search, people can still find your account by searching for your friends. Stalking seems to be everyone's fave hobby these days. Remember when voyeur was a dirty word? Now, it's a way of life. Enjoy! :0D
