your baby lock will probably last much longer and require less maintenance than the lower priced Brother, so you need to consider how much it would have cost to replace and maintain the Brother during the lifetime of the Babylock....

You can spread the joy of the sewing machine around by making quilts and craft items for gifts. You can mend your husband's clothes(smiley face!). This sewing machine doesn't just benefit you, but anybody you sew for. $500 sounds like an amazing deal!

I understand how you feel. Think of it this way, a craftsman needs the best tools they can afford wether it is a lap top for a business man, a full set of tools for a mechanic, the best shoes for a nurse, the best oven for a baker. You are a craftsman and you need the best tool. Celebrate you new baby and don't look back.

My husband and I do very well for ourselves, financially, but we're very frugal. This is by far the most either of us has ever spent on a hobby. I toyed with getting a lower priced model from Walmart (one of the Brothers), and I kind of feel guilty going for the more expensive model. It's not like anyone but me is going to get enjoyment out of the sewing machine. Does anyone else feel this way ever? Or should I just shut out the voices in my head and get to playing with my new toy?

Please don't feel guilty. Your husband will benefit too. For one thing, you will have so much fun, which will make you happy, a happy wife is a nice wife. Also, you could make him something like a lap quilt, or a remote caddy for his chair. Does he have a hobby? If so, encourage him to treat himself.

I just went thru the same thing! It's hard not to feel guilty....i think it's in the genes. I only know that my new machine will help me with the quilts i donate, so i am okay with my purchase. Go easy on yourself and enjoy it!!!
